Hello, my name is Esther Beaudette. I am the Chairperson of the IACS Senior Membership. Allow me to introduce you to our group and give you an overview of our meetings and activities.
Members of the Italian American Cultural Society, age 62 or older, are very welcome to attend our senior meetings. These meetings are scheduled on the first Wednesday of every month. The time is 10 o'clock in the morning. Members arrive at 9:00 a.m. for friendship coffee and doughnuts.
All of our meetings begin with roll call of officers; an invocation and pledge of allegiance to our flag. We exercise, sing, wish current month celebrants a happy birthday, and we congratulate all couples celebrating 50 or more years of marriage. In attendance each month is a visiting registered nurse, who does blood pressure readings.
New members and guests, (non-members), are welcomed and introduced. Minutes from the previous month's meeting are read. The Treasurer gives a financial report, and committee chairpersons of upcoming events share their information with the members. A bereavement committee was also established to notify everyone of the passing of a fellow member. As a group, we attend prayers and extend our sympathy to the deceased member's family.
A variety of interesting speakers attend, and professional entertainers occasionally show up. Sometimes our own members entertain us with an open microphone putting on skits and the like. A pizza lunch is available for purchase following most of our meetings.
Members are provided with a monthly schedule of daytime trips and activities, which include going to casinos, restaurants, theater, historic church tours, boat rides, etc. An annual picnic is always planned, and we have a great Christmas party. New ideas are always a future possibility.
Overnight trips are scheduled, too; i.e., Niagara Falls, Canada; tours throughout Northern Michigan, West Virginia, and more.
